Maria Christoforou

PhD candidate

Maria holds a Bachelor degree in Biological Sciences and a Master Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Cyprus, during which she investigated the role of Nubp1, Nubp2 and katanin-like 2 (ktnl2) proteins in the process of ciliogenesis. Following her studies, she worked at the Ministry of Education and Culture as a Biology teacher for secondary education level students. She joined ‘The Skourides Lab’ in June 2018 as a PhD student with great enthusiasm and passion and her research project focuses on GFP-LD2-LD4, a very promising potential anti-metastatic cancer drug. Specifically, she will address the effects of GFP-LD2-LD4 on tumour growth and determine its metastatic potential in an in vivo model. Maria was awarded with two scholarships by the Cyprus State Scholarships Foundation during her Master and PhD studies and her research skills include laboratory techniques in the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunofluorescence Microscopy and Animal Handling Techniques.
